About

So many wines, so many choices… How to decide? Price for one. But what’s good QPR (quality/price ratio) value? What’s ‘plonk’ and what’s nothing more than bourgeois ‘posh slosh’?

IWFS Capital Branch conducted a head-to-head budget v bougie blind tasting of various bubbly, white and red wine styles.

Was there much of a difference? Which tasted better? Our Cork Dork experts took everyone through some top tips to buying the Supermarket wines which give the most bang for the buck.

Whether you saw yourself as an average village pubby or Dame Anna Wintour, you could discover which wines might actually deserve your hard earned cash and in time to stock up for the Holiday Season!

What were the top revelations? A champagne from Lidl which the group enjoyed that wowwed at only £13.99 per bottle.  A £11.99 red Bordeaux (Ch. Pey La Tour) which came in a close second as a favorite to a £41 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir from Russian River. And a Clare Valley (Aus) Riesling - Petaluma Hanlin Hill - that was worth every bit of its £27.99 price tag.

All in all, an evening that was easy on both the palate and the wallet!
