About

The IWFS Capital Branch has kicked off its inaugural year with a white wine tasting masterclass in London that was a sell-out event.

With glasses of English sparkling wine in hand, the guests first received welcome comments and a brief introduction to the branch and Society. Following that ceremony, Steph Robertson - one of our certified Cork Dorks - led an enthusiastic and pacy tasting tour across six distinct wines (shown above and listed below), following our proprietary tasting methodology. With the energy in the room rising to full boil, a pop-quiz blind tasting was dropped on the gathering. Seven of the 40+ participants correctly guessed the wine as a Sauvignon Blanc (from the Loire Valley), for which they received a small prize. Nine others guessed Riesling, which was understandable given the aromatic profile of the Pouilly Fume that we poured.

After the tasting, delicious canapés were provided by the RAF Club - much needed sustenance after all of the liquid calories.

The Committee is delighted to have put this first event in the bag. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, although we had to navigate a few bugs along the way. We are enormously grateful to everyone who came out to create such a warm and rousing evening. On to the next one!

Wines tasted (from left to right): Chaffet Bros, Not Your Grandma's Riesling, 2021; Pfaffl Vom Haus, Gruner Veltliner, 2021; Trimbach, Gewurztraminer, 2017; Glazebrook, Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, 2022; Drouhin, Bourgogne Chardonnay, 2020; Forrester, The FMC Chenin Blanc, 2020

The blind wine: Jean Vincent Pouilly Fumé 2021, made with Sauvignon Blanc grapes.
